I got my phone confiscated can the VP go threw my phone and FWD all my texts to them selves?

Today in class my friend got mine and his phone taken away the teacher tricked mt friend in giving him both phones. The teacher takes the phones to the VP at lunch and my friend gets called into the office apperently the VP went threw his and my phone and FWD all of our texts to his phone. Is this right and there was no reason for him to do this they said they could be cause it was suspitious that he had 2 phones so they went threw them makes no sense.
