Do you think he likes me (He's 12)?

This boy i like sent me a message saying"Hi I just wanted to say that the fwd you sent me was cute, it meant a lot to me to alright bye.beautiful" The fwd was talking about how i can't live without you ect. But that same day i asked if he liked me and he said 'sometimes i do and sometimes i don't" I was wondering is he trying to not show to much emotion even though he does like me, or is he trying to spare feelings?
