Difference between RWD and FWD for a RAV4?

RAV4s only come in AWD and some SUV's now have FWD for a cheaper entry price than 4WD. I sure the RAV was a part time AWD in some models which saved fuel. The latest SUV's most models/make have FWD models for cheaper purchase price.
