All of my video and audio streaming in fast fwd?

Help Im running a dell windows 2000 pro. When watching a video the voices all sound like they are helium and the vid runs faster than normal. What could the problem be? Thanks in advance for answers. I know this os is old but I dont have a choice at the moment.
